I think a lot of Singaporeans' blogs will be littered with photos of limited toys, tshirts and other collectibles from the IDN05 design conference but I and a lot of other serious designers can only bew disappointed at their obviously commercial biased choice of presenters and what can only be described as selfish use of international brand names.
This is my first design conference and after hearing of last year's IDN conference's success and the diversity of designers I was quite excited about coming to a place to be inspired. But all i got was a couple of dudes who have no idea how to present their ideas or philosophy playing a couple of videos and slideshows to some bad trip hop music...
Another sad thing beside the emptiness of the conference was seeing what i think is the worst part of the design scene all in one place. Basically all those assholes who attend events like IDN to buy limited ed. tshirts and merchandise. These "design scenesters" will definitely be busy tonight loading up photos of the latest toys on their blogs tonight. Well screw you guys, I'm going back to my drawing board...
