quite a lot happened these 2 days
first I got a job! starting in august I will be interning at DP architect. I realise I already shared about this like 2 months ago but it was only in friday that I confirmed my position with an interview with my future boss.
But seriously Friday was like God repeating "stop worrying and trust in me" to me over and over again. Actually I spent most of Thursday night trying to concentrating on my work but instead worrying about the interview. The main reason wasnt that I won't get the job, it was mainly because I suddenly realised if I don't get it I would have no valid reason to stay in Singapore for Sonic Fest --__-- ; ..... and would probably get lectured to death by any number of Sonic Edge leaders about not planning ahead with intention or something
On the day itself and on the way to the office, I just prayed "yeh God, listen I'm just going to leave this to you, do whatever you want". Well to cut a long story short and to save some sharing for cell next week, it was probably the perfect job interview...seriously like "Hi Shawn nice to meet you, I'm your future boss, I like your work welcome aboard and see you in August". I walked out of the place kind of dazed.....then proceed to just smile my way back home and go and watch Ray that night instead of doing work .....haha guess my Lost in Singapolation adventure just secured a sequel praise God.

Today at church a truly inspirational pastor by the name of Michael Ross Watson came to speak. You know when God's Spirit is working through a person when the story of his own life is enough to make a person devote his life to Christ. An englishman who was basically enprisoned in his room from age 3 - 16 in a family who doesn't want him , Mr Watson basically stumbled onto God looking for a game of billiard. The truly awesome thing about this guy is that he is as funny as anything and despite being 50+ years old, can still kick it with 500+ youth who laughed when he laughed and burst into tears when he shared how he chose to follow Jesus when he was given the choice to give up God or be disowned by his stepfather. Truly a testimony that can change lives and hopefully my life will be such a good testimony.

In other news here are some photos i found on my hard drive. I think I took them while walking home from studio, quite emo haha...

oh and here's a timewaster, I recently found a slightly weird but addictive game called nanaca crash!, basically you just try and smash this guy as far as you can with your bike... hehe I got a pretty awesome record of 14000 metres (yes I am quite pathetic sometimes...) but before you judge me try and best me! Muhaahaha

Had my first day of mid sem break, decided the night before to play some ball and organised it for 10 am.
However dunno why but all singtel phones (or at least the ones i know of) decided to go berserk and not deliver messages when there are sent or let you make calls. I ended up waking up at 1130. I rushed to the courts at tiong bahru after realising I was the ball for the game. After the first game, while we were having a break my phone went on msg rampage as all my morning's sms came at the same time. It was kind of interesting how different people (namely Esmond and John Chiong) react to me being late...

]1st msg (Es): hey Shawn, where are you? it's 1015 we at buona vista with no ball...
2nd msg (Es): eh Shawn, we leaving without you.. join us if you wake up...
3rd msg (John): Spam!
4th msg(Es): HEY SHAWN! we have no ball!
5th msg (Es): Shawn. you must turn up. You are the organiser. Remember.
6th msg (John): hey shawn why don't you join us? hehe....

Also just realised that i have 2 months left in my exchange here in Singapore. I have to say this has been quite a journey for me. the funny thing is I will probably be the strangest exchange student here since i seem to fit in better here than home. But i guess praise God for providing me with a 10 month long pilgrimage. It sounds corny but I think I really discovered a lot about myself during my time here. Just some thoughts about the whole experience:
- God works in weird and mysteriously but ultimately wonderful ways
- Loving others also includes loving myself
- School is sometimes a distraction to more important things in life (kids under 18 please ignore)
- Having extended family in the same country really rocks
- Hall life is overrated, especially when the only time your neighbours give a crap about u is to get you to help them do stuff or to tell you to stop practicing bass so they can hear themselves sing to chinese opera
- Time management is probably THE most important skills one learns in education
- Your private bathroom, don't take it for granted
- I am so going to starve to death when I get back to Australia....
- Draw near to God and He will draw near
to you
I think i'll probably write a bit more in detail about my time hear but i guess this is just a preview...

This just in Sonic Fest 04
Asia's Biggest Christian Arts festival rocks!
And more news
Sonic Fest 05 will be even better
Check !

This event is basically thousands of youth and young at heart gathering to shout their love for God, and the best part is in the end the music doesn't matter, the dance doesn't matter, the art doesn't matter and the drama doesn't matter, it's all about God !

Love doesn't stop for valentine

After quite a packed week with chinese new year, sentosa and weekend and the subsequent all nighter at the studio to get some work done somehow it's valentines.
I remember back in high school how a couple of roses would really make my day and I wouldn't even know they're from.
Went to suntec with siymon just to hang out and bought My Utmost for His Highest but on the way home just started contemplating how grateful I am these few years, actually knowing who loves me and not just in the guy girl sense but in the way I need to become a better person and a Christian... so thanks all who have shown love and hope I can reciprocrate !

did some reading, writing, drawing....anything but work really. then went to orchard to hang out with suelynn, aletheia, fang fang, fern fern and jerome...
was going to watch a movie but turned out you can never buy tickets to movies you want to see in Singapore only crappy foreign films that leave scars on your eyes....
wah but in the process of trying to salvage the evening actually had some guilty fun of taking the lamest pics ever (what the hundreds of people coming in and out of the cinemas looking at us thought i'll never know ....)

3 movies and a good time

Went to hang out with Shawna and Aletheia tonight was going to watch Finding Neverland but i guess there was a mix up with cinema times, ended up walking from one end of orchard road all the way to Plaza Singapura where we decided to watch a French movie called "Bad education", to our horror (well to mine anyway the girls seemed ok after a while), it was a story about 2 boys growing up to be very very gay. Included was extremely closeshots of some guy's butt (which Shawna and Aletheia complemented ...-_-;)and two catholic boys up to naughty things in a movie theatre.... Admittedly the 2 storey high shot of asses distracted us 3 too much to continue watching so we skipped over to another cinema this one showing kinsey...which starred liam neeson of schiendler's list fame. Sounds good right? This time we watch a family sitting down to dinner and discussing their sexual history (and quite anatomically discussing...) and guess what? More scenes with butts and penises.... ugh
last skip to elektra which we settled on despite its mediocrity, at least the only time we winced was at the corny lines and story plot holes....

Sometimes i wished i'd just stay home and drool, at least my brain won't be damaged that way...

Finally scanned in some drawings i've done lately not very good but at least they don't suck

i'll post maybe one a day so come back for more ^
Today during class had my first try at using the industrial laser cutting machine (to do some guitar pedal work heheh....) wah I think I've found my new toy....
This thing is amazing! cutting tiny lines with speed and precision it basically did about 1 week's work for me in 5 minutes.... hehe my classmates were looking at me like a weirdo..happily admiring the results but yeh i'm a sucka for these things...

anyway still on a all nighter high and the high is running dry so gonna take a nap and enjoy the next few days, hehe unsually excited about chinese new year but maybe cos i have never really celebrated it in Sydney for the last 10 years so all the memories of candy and money is clouding my mind
anyway I'm out
God bless!

oh
and guess who figured out how to post pics ?....hehe

Sunday, February 06, 2005

wah had a long chat with a friend from way back David and also Anna from Sydney just catching up and then went on a blog surf rampage and left comments on a few people's pages but yeh funny how after an all nighter trying to pull designs and floor plans from your ass in a foreign country makes you think of the people back home?
maybe i am a bit homesick but life goes on u know? I can bitch about how i don't keep in touch with people enough or why they don't reply my emails but like me they must be super busy... but still part of me still want to maintain that connection however brief it is....I know it's like emotional suicide but started listening to U2's walk on and almost felt like tearing up...
But praise God i guess, growth hurts and the only way to grow is to shed old skins and harden new ones. i'm learning so much here and having so much fun... but it would be go to let them know they're still on my mind sometimes...

Vertigo by U2

"The night is full of holes
Those bullets rip the sky
Of ink with gold
They twinkle as the boys play rock and roll"

In 2004 you partied so hard... you forgot how to count.

Wow third post and i've already fallen into the trap of posting which "insert crap" am I?!
Was supposed to wake up for soccer today but ended up sleeping til noon. It's a designer's trap, our nocturnal calling i guess. Maybe there should be a movie like Blade about us... Exacto Blade... he was the designer who walked during the day exposing the creavtivity of architects and graphic designers everything...the daywalker... then they woke up their leader..the first designer his name was Frank Lloyrd Wright...and here I am talking crap
laters

Ugh still trying to figure out how to post pics on blogger (I am severely tech impaired) if anyone can teach me a step-by-step method eternally grateful will be I......

Woke up today feeling really weird like i'm missing something
then suddenly dawned on me in a big way that i've been here for more than 6 months...

did some work on the sonic edge pedals then went to church sang a really good song today had some amazing lyrics
" Your Love
Deeper than my view of grace
Higher than this worldly place
Longer than this road I travel
Wider than this gap You filled"

When I was singing this song I was just filled with an overwhelming sense of wonder, like Jesus' death was just a preview of the main event, how much God loves us !

This week looking forward to Chinese new year Ang Bao is the essential addition to a student's income especially after the super costly holiday season, it's basically part of the Asian's survival guide in contemporary culture.
To all my Asian singles below 30.... happy chinese new yeah!
To all my Asian married couples... Gon hey fat choi... Lia see dow loh !!

a fresh start and 10 minutes to 3am

Yes after about 1 year and a half with zorpia and never figuring out how to post pictures with blogs i have gone bloggers. Also my site seems to be dead so bleh i need a new vent.
anyway will try n import all my pics from zorpia in the next few days and actually post more often.

Spent most of the day in studio today just working on projects and assignments. But somehow I found time to do this....
